Drug and substance abuse is a major problem in Kibra that has existed for a long time. Hard drug abuse, such as cocaine, heroin, and bhang, has become widespread. Many young people are becoming involved in the abuse of these drugs to the point where it has gone viral and is now being sold in schools. It is unfortunate that the peddlers are protected by the police, which gives them a lot of power. Even the press statement we are issuing poses a security risk, but we cannot allow it to continue because there will be no youth in Kibra for another year or two.
We are calling for swift and harsh action to be taken to stop the peddlers, as well as for police officers to stop engaging with peddlers for money. We, the people, the police, and the local administration should all work together to stop this menace, and we support His Excellency President William Ruto’s remarks on drug abuse. Karanja Estate, Makina, Ayany 42, Silanga, and Laini Saba are the most affected areas, and half of the Boda Boda riders are transporters.
