At the Nubian Rights Forum, we believe in empowering and uplifting individuals from all communities, and we are proud to share the success story of Habiba, a member of the Nubian ethnic minority community in Kenya. Habiba’s story is one of perseverance, determination, and resilience, and we are honored to have been a part of her journey. For over 20 years, Habiba struggled to acquire an identity card, which is a basic requirement for accessing essential services such as healthcare, employment, and banking. Despite facing numerous obstacles and setbacks, Habiba refused to give up and continued to pursue her goal of obtaining an identity card.

Habiba first applied for an identity card in 2003, when she was 18 years old, and the process was relatively simple at the time. However, over the years, the procedure became more challenging, and Habiba found herself subjected to vetting and waiting for years on end. In 2016, Habiba crossed paths with the Nubian Rights Forum, and we immediately recognized the injustice she was facing. We invited her to our forum, where we provided her with the necessary advice and support to strengthen her application. Despite our best efforts, Habiba’s application continued to be delayed, and it was not until February 14, 2023, that she finally received her identity card. Habiba’s journey to obtain her identity card was long and arduous, but it was also a testament to her strength and perseverance.
We are thrilled to see Habiba finally receive the recognition and documentation that she rightfully deserves. We are honored to have been a part of her journey and will continue to advocate for equal rights and access to documentation for all members of our community. At the Nubian Rights Forum, we believe in celebrating and uplifting the success stories of individuals like Habiba. We hope that her story inspires others to never give up and to continue fighting for their rights and opportunities. We are proud to have played a small role in Habiba’s journey, and we will continue to work tirelessly towards a more just and equitable society.
